The Punk is Redux

I’m so happy about this. A new Punk strip, all my own work. Following, of course in the path blazed for me by the great Rick Gagnon. Well, I think he’s great anyhow.

The inking is all digital, and it took a while to do. I’m hoping I can cut down on the production time, and maintain the same quality (hoping to improve there, also!) Other strips, I think I’m just going to scribble with a pen.

I’m also colouring digitally, but I like the black and white aesthetic here. There will be special “Sunday” pages, however.

This is the last of the original Punk strips, published in MensuHell during the ’00s. But it’s not the end of the Punk! I’ve got a head and a notebook full of new strips to do. I’ll be doing them mainly myself, but Rick will pop in, when he feels like it.

I’m in his debt for spurring me on to create such a pleasant, fun set of stories. It absolutely would have not happened without him. Still, collaboration is a funny, 2-headed beast, and hard to steer. I want to try this myself, and keep to the high artistic standards he set in the finishes. Been learning a lot of new digital tools to help me in that regard.

This comic story was oddly prescient. After a winter with hardly any snow, we got lots on the weekend, and then ice. The machines have been toiling noisily away below my apartment window.

Happily, the weather isn’t like this at the moment in Montreal. But there usually is at least one good dump before April. When that happens, these little tanks and all the other snow-removing vehicles are ubiquitous!
