Sergio Leone

I seem to be on a kick of drawing film directors from movies I'm watching on DVD. Maybe because it's easier to get a resemblance, rather than doing the famous faces of the stars. Did a not-bad Nicolas Cage, though. This is for "Once Upon a Time in America." That's supposed to be Elizabeth McGovern's character in the back.

Scene inspired by the movie.

Nicolas Cage, and his amazing nuclear wonder dog.

Very cool.
Part of that film was shot in Montreal, and I think they came here to soak up some of the old Jewish atmosphere which lingers here. I love the old men in hats, with their beards, prayer shawls, and locks of hair, disputing over some question of Kabbala.
When I get old, I want to be some elder who sits on his steps, and people, especially kids, approach and ask me for wisdom (which I may have finally got by then)
I don't know. It looks like Sergio Leone is about to grab someone rudely. (Saw a picture of Robert Altman where he was doing this).
Are you Jewish?
I've never seen the movie, but it looks like Sergio Leone might be preparing to crush my head.
I hate it when famous dead movie directors do that.
Not Jewish. Just sort of...what's the opposite of an anti-semite? A Judeo-phile? Mind you, I also like mullahs, and calls to prayer, but it's all so scary these days.
I can relate. I was really intrigued with Judaism a couple of years back, and still sort of am. I love their ideas, and I was a philosophy major for a time, so I love the idea of a learned man being called on for advice. I love love of Wisdom.
But you're right, all religion is scary these days, or just in general. Having only one belief, and not bending it for anything you actually come to encounter in this world, is really scary.
The Jewish faith is still one faith I respect though. The other day my husband struck up a discussion with me about how he thought the Jewish people might have singled themselves out by calling themselves the chosen ones, becoming targets for other cultures and religions subsequently. My response was, that if you and your people were persecuted for thousands of years, and put through unspeakable horrors, you too, would be seeking an explanation, such as being the chosen ones to suffer for God. I don't know what God wants, or what God is, but I don't think there is anything arrogant about that explanation.
You kind of look a bit Jewish, you know.
