Miyazaki

Nasty blogger flushed my post, but I will try to re-create it. Been busy, no elaborate drawings. This is in honour of Hayao Miyazaki, whose "Spirited Away" I've enjoyed today. It's sort of an imaginary portrait, because I didn't have his face in front of me while I drew it, just the memory of his face. While it looks a little like him, it's missing his moustache and beard, and therefore looks younger. So, maybe it's a young Miyazaki. I hope this post saves, because I'm not in the mood to reconstruct it again.

I enjoyed "Sprited Away" quite a bit, except the little girls voice grew obnoxious at times.
Even worse in Japanese!
Very imaginative story though. It really gave me a sense of childhood imagination.
I liked the idea that it was a little more disorganised than most fantasy worlds, less cut and dried. People could make mistakes, and things could go wrong, not because of evil, but more out of misunderstandings and character flaws, like real life.
hav eyou seen howl's moving castle yet? i read the book first last year and then found out miyazake was doing a movie version... he's one of my favourite or my favourite animator. i jsut hate dubbed versions though, just wish disney never dubbed stuff... lost in translation for sure... but seriously, i think the art is totally a result of the landscape he was exposed to when growing up, you can see it if you go to japan...
Little bit behind in movies. The one of his I want to see is "My Neighbour Totoro," with the multi-legged cat bus!
I enjoyed the quieter, less crowded aspects of Thailand when I was there. Really different culture, which shows in the films that come from that part of the world.
