Jack in Thailand
Getting a little more time now to reflect on everything. What worked, what didn't.
First, go look at photos of the launching, on Max's blog: [Link]
I'm typing this in an internet cafe near where I am staying, which is the artist's residence of the Alliance Francaise, next to an English-speaking Catholic University called Assumption College, but more commonly known as ABAC. It's hard working here at the moment, because gamers are screaming at the tops of their lungs in Thai when they hit something. But it's a fast internet connection. Teh only computer in the residence is a 1992 Mac, with a fussy keyboard and dodgy power.
Thailand is weird because it has a mixture of the very modern and the very old fashioned. My condo is three floors high (I've got it all to myself for three weeks, and it's spooky and somewhat lonely. ) The plumbing is just a trickle, and geckos and huge cockroaches live in the walls. At least there's air conditioning, but I prefer to sit on the porch with a fan going, and drink my $1.00 quart beer, or brandy with soda water and ice.
The screamers are very enthusiatic, which I suppose is a problem with trying to do this in the afternoon (lots of little problems here), so I'm making this a first installment, and more later.
Don't have access to a scanner, which is a pity, but have been doing some drawings, when I have time!

jack- thanks for keeping us up to date on the Thailand trip-
Congratulations on getting Embassy support. That is an essential part of elevating the status and profile and appreciation of our profession here in Canada. The more of us working that approach the better it is for all! Thank you.
What are your feelings about the "status" of cartooning in Thailand?
I'm looking forward to the pics!
